After the Weight Loss
When obesity surgery is successful, patients often become prime candidates for body-shaping plastic surgery to eliminate their sagging skin and other tissues.
“Many people who have lost over 100 pounds after gastric-reduction surgery want and need multiple additional surgeries, usually 12-18 months afterwards,” says UAB plastic surgeon John Anastasatos, M.D. "This group requires multiple procedures: tummy-tuck, breast lift/reduction, arm lift, thigh/lower body lift, and facial/neck lift.”
He performs all five procedures during the same operation so patients undergo general anesthesia only once, and recuperate from all at the same time. Because of the multiple procedures, he schedules them to be done in a hospital rather than outpatient clinic and admits them afterwards for overnight monitoring.
